Wymzya Fe: chewable tablets

Wymzya Fe is a little different from your typical birth control pill. It’s still got both progestin and estrogen (so it’s a “combined” pill) and has the high effectiveness you expect from your birth control, but it’s chewable. If you have difficulty swallowing medication — or just dislike it — Wymzya Fe is a great choice. Your pills will even have a slight spearmint flavor, making your daily BC habit a bit more enjoyable.

What’s the Wymzya Fe dosage?

Wymzya Fe has three weeks of active tablets and one week of iron supplements. “Fe” is the symbol for iron in the periodic table. All birth control pills with it in their name contain iron.

The Wymzya Fe dosage is .4mg of norethindrone acetate (that’s the progestin) and .035mg of ethinyl estradiol (an estrogen). Its iron pills contain 75mg of ferrous fumarate. That’s not enough iron to fix a deficiency but will give you a little boost during your period week.

Is Wymzya Fe generic?

Yes. Wymzya Fe is the generic version of Femcon Fe, the first FDA-approved chewable birth control. They’ve both got the same ingredients in the same amounts, but are made by different companies. This means they’ll have different packaging, inactive ingredients and price. Good news, though: generic medication is usually cheaper.

How to take Wymzya Fe

Take Wymzya Fe once a day, at the same time. You can swallow the tablet (like a standard birth control pill) or chew it. If you prefer to chew your Wymzya Fe, you should have the pill with a glass of water.

You don’t need to take the pill with food unless you experience an upset stomach. Nausea can be a side effect of birth control, especially when starting a new dose of hormones, so if you’re experiencing that, taking the pill with a snack or small meal can help.

There are certain days when it’s better to start taking Wymzya Fe for the first time, especially when switching from other birth control methods. More information about this can be found in the package insert that comes with your medication.
