Contrave helps you to lose weight by affecting the areas of the brain that control food intake.

Do Contrave tablets work?

Contrave weight loss tablets have been shown in clinical studies to be effective and safe [1]. By helping you lose weight, Contrave can help to lower your risk of obesity-related disease and improve your health.

As with any weight loss treatment, you’ll need to make sure you eat a balanced, healthy diet as well as exercise regularly while taking your medication. Your physician can help you work out a plan to ensure that you get the best out of the treatment and keep the weight off.

Can I only get Contrave on prescription?

Yes, you’ll need a prescription in order to get Contrave, whether you’re buying it online or not. This is because your weight, BI, and waist circumference need to be monitored while taking this drug. For example, if you don’t lose 5% of your weight during the first 16 weeks of using Contrave, it’s likely you’ll need to try another medication or method of losing weight. In addition to monitoring your weight, we will also need to monitor your blood pressure as Contrave can increase blood pressure in some people.

Is Contrave similar to other medications?

There are other tablets you can get for weight loss, but these work in a slightly different way by stopping your gut from absorbing fat. Injections like Saxenda and Wegovy work on receptors in the brain but do it in a different way to Contrave. So Contrave is pretty unique in this respect.

What is Contrave?

It’s a weight loss tablet that you take every day for a set period, until you reach your target weight. You’ll need to eat a calorie controlled diet and to get regular exercise while you’re taking it for it to work at its best. Contrave is a medicine that’s only available on prescription.

How to take Contrave pills

Contrave instructions are pretty straightforward. You will simply swallow one tablet whole with water; Contrave cannot be broken, split or crushed. They are best taken with or after a meal and not on an empty stomach. Make sure you read the patient information leaflet that comes with the treatment before you use it, and ask your provider for advice if there’s anything you’re unsure about.

What are the most common Contrave side effects?

The most common side effects from Contrave include nausea, constipation and a headache. Up to one in ten patients may also experience tremors, vertigo, insomnia, dry mouth, fatigue, changes in how food tastes, irritability, alopecia, pruritus, tinnitus, sweating and loss of concentration.

When should I seek medical attention?Severe side effects with Contrave are rare, occurring in less than one in 1,000 patients, but it’s important to know what they are should they develop. If you experience any of the following you should seek immediate medical attention: suicidal thoughts, seizures, erythema or Stevens Johnson Syndrome (a rare skin condition that can cause severe blisters and bleeding in the eyes, mouth, lips, nose or genitals) and rhabdomyolysis (muscle cramps, pain and weakness). You can find more info on side effects in the leaflet that comes with the medication.

Contrave, Xenical or Saxenda?

Despite containing different ingredients, Contrave and Saxenda work in a similar way, by making you feel more full more quickly. This has an effect on food cravings and can lead to weight loss as a result. Xenical, instead, works by preventing the body from digesting fat, which is eliminated without being fully processed by the body.

So which is better? That depends on your medical profile. The treatments available have been shown to be generally effective and well tolerated [2], but you might find that one particular solution works better for you. We can help you determine the medication that’s right for you.
